What if I spend $50?

How it works

Four lines make the number.

Leaf adds up what you can spend from what you have entered. Nothing is guessed, and every line is shown next to the total.

Money in everyday accounts
+$1,902.50
Current account and cash. Savings count only when you say so, and credit cards and loans are never counted as money you have.
Bills still to pay
-$385.00
Bills due by 14 Oct, the day before payday. Phone is overdue, so it is still counted. Gym is due on payday and waits for the next period.
Savings set aside
-$250.00
The holiday fund sits in the current account, so it is taken off before you spend it by mistake.
Safety buffer
-$100.00
An amount you choose to keep untouched, so the estimate is never the last cent.

Together they leave $1,167.50 for 12 days, about $97.29 a day. Update a balance or mark a bill paid, and the number moves with it.

Day to day

Three things you do in Leaf.

Record spending as it happens.

A transaction takes a few seconds to type, and each one gets a category so the month adds up by itself. Or import a CSV from your bank; rows already in Leaf are skipped.

Add “Supermarket, $62.40, Groceries” and the estimate above drops by $62.40 straight away.

  • Monthly bus passTransport · Yesterday-$91.00

Keep bills in view.

Bills are grouped into overdue, due soon and later, on monthly, weekly, yearly or one-off schedules. Mark one paid and the payment is recorded as spending in the same step.

Phone was due two days ago, so it stays counted until you mark it paid. Optional email reminders go out a few days before a bill is due.

Questions

Plain answers.

What Leaf does today, not what it might do one day.

Does Leaf connect to my bank?
No. You type balances and transactions in yourself, or import a CSV file your bank lets you download. There is no automatic syncing in this version, and Leaf never asks for bank logins.
What does it cost?
Nothing at the moment. This version has no paid plans, no adverts and no trackers. If that ever changes, it will be said here first.
Which currencies does it support?
You choose one currency for your Leaf account when you start, from 20 including USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD and INR. All your accounts use it, and amounts are never converted.
Can I get my data out again?
Yes. Settings has a one-click export of everything as JSON, and of your transactions as CSV. You can also delete your account, which removes all of its data.
What does Leaf keep about me?
Your email address, a hashed password and the figures you enter. Your appearance choice stays in your browser. The privacy policy has the details.
Can I try it without an account?
Yes. The demo is read-only and uses clearly labelled sample data.

Start with what is in your accounts today.

An email address, today’s balances and your next payday are enough for the first estimate.
